ECE alumni board welcomes two new student representatives!

We’d like to extend a warm welcome to our 2018-2019 student representatives to the ECE Alumni Board of Governors!

Lucas Newton is in his first year of doctorate study at Ohio State ECE and received his bachelor’s in the same department. He is from Englewood, about 20 minutes north of Dayton. He does his research work at the Electroscience Laboratory off campus, and is also taking graduate classes. In fact, his current graduate-level Electromagnetic Theory course uses a textbook written by Constantine Balanis, another OSU ECE grad, who earned a detorate degrese in 1969. At the Electroscience Lab there is a wide variety of research topics. Lucas’ projects focus on reconfigurable filters in the THz and IR spectra and on antennas for use in automotive radar. Besides being busy with coursework and research, Lucas serves as the president of Ohio State’s Eta Kappa Nu chapter.

Autumn Mathias is currently a senior undergraduate student in ECE and is from Cincinnati. While at Ohio State, she has enjoyed studying Power Systems and is involved in many groups and extra-curricular activities. Besides serving on the alumni board, Autumn is currently the IEEE President, involved with the Society of Women Engineers and a weekly volunteer at the Columbus Dream Center. She also works as an undergraduate teaching assistant for the Fundamentals of Engineering class for freshmen. Upon graduation, Autumn will pursue a career in the power industry.
