Volunteer opportunities for EE/ECE alumni
Jan 10, 2019When we last surveyed our membership, a big request was for continuing education and professional development activities. We’d like to highlight upcoming volunteer opportunities.
Pay it forward with the Ohio State EE/ECE Alumni Society. Click to learn more about the following opportunities:
Ongoing: Hands-on K-12 Outreach
As electrical and computer engineers, we have an innate interest in technology and a desire to spread the word among the next generation of engineers. Fortunately, we have the opportunity to volunteer with Professor Betty Lise Anderson’s K-12 hands-on STEM experience program. Since the program’s inception, Anderson’s efforts have reached over 20,000 potential engineering students, sparking their interest and demystifying engineering concepts.
One of the great opportunities where alumni can “pay it forward” is by providing guidance and interest in the activities of current students. One of these opportunities is provided through the Ohio State OHI/O hackathon program. ECE Alums can help with Judging opportunities to help determine prizes. There are Mentoring opportunities to assist in the exciting stage of coming up with an idea and figuring out how to solve it.
March 23, 2019: High School I/O
We are inviting EE/ECE Alumni to serve as mentors and judges. It’s a science fair, demo style and very friendly. Our goal is to give positive reinforcement and suggestions for future work.
